I’ve been doing a lot of blog soul searching recently, thinking a little more about what kind of place I’d like it to be and who it’s for. You may have noticed I’ve started to categorise my posts now into three main topics: culture, crafts and countryside and I’m hoping to have a bit more of a local focus (so good news for all you West Midlands/Worcestershire readers!). BUT, I also want to stay true to the reason I started this blog in the first place, a way for me to document and capture all those easily forgotten moments: the every day bits that might not sound like much, but can be the most wonderful highlight in a dreary day.

For this very reason, I’m going to make an effort to join in with Katie’s The Ordinary Moments linky as my impetus for making sure I stick to this side of my blogging adventure. As she says:

‘The simple things in life are often the sweetest.  While the fancy days out, weekends away or holidays are fun, it’s the ordinary moments I will miss when my children are all grown up.  The snuggling in bed reading a story.  The giggles as they run around my overgrown garden with the grass that desperately needs a cut.  Even the naughty ones.  The ones we all have.

Baby’s First Swing

I’ve been looking forward to taking Pickle on the swings for a while. He absolutely loves nothing more than being twirled around the lounge, thrown up in the air and swung in your arms so I couldn’t wait to see his little face light up in the same way when we introduced him to what I thought would become a very firm favourite. Now the weather is brightening up, I’ve been keeping an eye on the park every time I’ve been for a walk around the Arrow Valley Lake but it’s always been a bit too busy.

But Sunday. Sunday, the swings were empty. And LPD was with us too (and it’s nice to share special ‘firsts’ with Daddy every once in a while!) so this was our perfect chance. I grinned like a loon as I popped him in the swing seat, beaming with pride as his little hands instinctively knew to clutch onto the front. I gave him a gentle push and…

Nothing. He wasn’t that impressed. He looked around a little bit, but mostly with an expression that clearly read: how much more of this do I have to endure?

We only managed a smile out of him when LPD came a bit closer. I think he was excited because he thought this was his chance to get out.
