Ah, it’s this time of year again… when I pretend that I don’t need to buy into commercialism to prove my love but secretly hope I’ll be surprised with a wonderfully thoughtful and romantic gift. Last year I wrote about my Number #1 Relationship Tip (which is just as relevant now as a year ago) but this year I’ve got something a little more creative to share. If you know LPD in real life, you’ll know he’s not the most natural romantic, but I like to think I am so if you’re on the hunt for a last minute Valentine’s Day gift, I’ve got a quick and easy idea for you.

Last Minute Valentine's Day Craft

I made these for LPD back in 2010, and he’s kept them in his bedside drawer ever since (even after three house moves) so I know he must like them (or, that he knows I’ll probably be offended if he ever did chuck them away!). It’s not the most useful of gifts but I had fun making them: a little bag filled with handmade cards detailing all the things I love most about him.

I won’t give away all my secrets but some of my reasons for love included:

  • I love… every single cup of tea you make
  • I love… how you think things through
  • I love… the freckles on your shoulders

Valentine's Day Craft Idea

Even now, I vividly remember making them. I mainly used craft items I already had in stock: white card, some lined paper and a bit of an accent coloured paper in pink but I bought a cute little red gift bag and some table-confetti hearts to spruce it up a bit. All it took was a bit of careful cutting and gluing, so it’s super craft-friendly for anyone to do. I was studying at University at the time so I didn’t have a great deal of money to be splashing around and, as usual, I’d left it to the last minute to produce anything. I was really pleased with how they turned out though.

Handmade Valentine's Day gift

I also bought him some of these love tokens that you can pick up from Amazon.* Not sure LPD has ever actually cashed any of them in – I’ll have to remind him that he has them for whenever he fancies a little pick-me-up!

I’m a sucker for a handmade gift – I always think it means more. I’d love to hear from you if you’ve had any success making your own Valentine’s Day gift. I’ve not got anything up my sleeve yet so I best get my creative skates on today and pull something out of the bag for LPD! He deserves something special this year, I think.
