And just like that, the summer months are gone. Can you believe it’s September already? I feel like I’ve still got sun cream in one hand whilst starting to think about Christmas presents with the other – and yes, I’ve learned my lesson from last year and will be planning Christmas much more in advance this year… sorry for mentioning it already. This time last year is when I started to get into a bit more of a weekly routine with Pickle. It’s when we started our first proper Rhythm Time term, and enjoyed a little treat of a pub lunch whilst the babies had a long post-class snooze. Those were the days! Not only did we have the time for a lunch out, but the money for it too. Maternity pay may be pants compared to normal salary, but it’s a lot better than nothing at all!

One Year Ago – Opinionated, much?

Ah, September 2016. The month I finally got a bit of blogging mojo back after giving birth to Pickle. And boy, did I have some opinions to share! I’m not much of an opinion-piece blogger. I wish I was! But the reality is, I don’t have many strong opinions worth writing about. It’s not that I don’t care about things, it’s just… I can always see the other side of the argument. I don’t know if it was the effect of a few months’ worth of restricted writing or getting my head around how it felt to be a new parent but reading back Sometimes I want to be Daddy hit me right in the feels.

The Mommy expectation bar is set too high. Mommy can change all the nappies and sick covered outfits, take baby for walks and to sensory classes, be up all hours of the night feeding but yet still feels like she’s not done enough. Mommy really should have managed to do the washing up too.

Daddy probably doesn’t feel the need to defend every parenting decision to all those who offer their opinions or advice.

Tired Mommy

And yes… that bleary-eyed, spaced out look is pretty much how I used to look every morning back then. Which is ironic as looking back, I reckon I probably used to get more sleep than I do now. Maybe. Or maybe it’s just the same but I’m just better adjusted to it now. It’s funny, two years ago I’d have NEVER ever put a photo of myself looking like this online. Now, I just don’t really care that much. And anyway, who’s looking at me when that lovely squishy Pickle is in the frame? Look at how tiny he was!

Last September was also when I shared the photos from his newborn photoshoot (although, he was quite a few weeks old when he had it so it wasn’t a newborn-newborn shoot, but still adorable).

Just looking at this photo makes me want to pick up my knitting needles! I’d love to knit a little teddybear like that… I have a kit to do it (and a kit to sew one which I haven’t properly looked at yet and NEED to do!). I was really proud last September to have found the time to enter the Simplicity Sewing Challenge by making this buttoned denim skirt – which I won a Highly Commended award for! Not bad, eh?

And now it’s your turn. I’d love for you to take a look back at the blog posts or photos you took in September last year (or in 2015 and beyond if you fancy!). Enjoy the little trip down memory lane and feel free to join in the fun here by adding links to your old blog posts or to a new reflective post. If you’re not a blogger, use the #OurYesterYear hashtag on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook to share an old photo.

How it works

On the 1st of every month, a new #OurYesterYear linky will open, and remain open until the end of the month. There are several ways you can take part:

  • Link up with the URL of a past blog post written in this month but in a previous year (it could be one year ago, two years ago or even ten years ago!)
  • Link up with a new blog post that reflects upon a post or posts written previously (this is what I’ve done!)
  • Use the hashtag #OurYesterYear on social media

You can add up to two links over the course of the month if you’d like, and although there aren’t any rules or requirements as such, it’s nice to share the love and take a look at at least another couple of bloggers’ posts too. If you’d like to add this badge to your post, please feel free to copy and paste the code below.
