Note: I’m really nervous about writing this post. I feel like the Internet may judge me and some of the decisions I’ve made in regards to what is ‘safe’ for my pregnant body and unborn child, but you know what? I’m writing it anyway. I’m proud of the things I’ve done and I always thoughtfully weighed up the safety pros and cons. If you don’t agree that I made the right decision, that’s fine. You don’t have to agree with me and you don’t have to do the same as me. But this is what I’ve done. And guess what? It’s been absolutely fine.

I like to think Pickle is already an Adventurer in Training. And boy, has Pickle been on some adventures already!

Before we were even trying to get pregnant, we booked our belated honeymoon to Morocco. One of the main appeals was to visit the Atlas Mountains and do some trekking. We booked ourselves into a two-day Mountain trek and I excitedly counted down the months, weeks and days and treated myself to some new walking shoes. When we later found out we were pregnant, I was pretty nervous. I had been so looking forward to the treks and had no idea whether it would be considered safe for me to do so anymore.

I contacted the trek organisers who didn’t seem at all concerned about my being pregnant and before the trip, I chatted through the trek with my Doctor as well. I was reassured that she didn’t think it would be a problem, but sternly reminded me to: ‘Be sensible.’

The day of our trek arrived, and after a lovely few days of serious relaxing, I was looking forward to a good walk. A car picked us up from the hotel and drove us to our new home for the next two days: Riad Jnane Imlil. Our guide met us and explained to us the various day treks that were an option to us. He put it this way: easy, medium or medium-hard.

Little Pickle’s Dad blissfully unaware of the trek that was ahead!

For some reason, we went for medium-hard. Just going to say: what a mountain-dwelling Berber deems ‘medium-hard’ was NOT the same as what I’d deem ‘medium-hard’.
